June 28, St Marys Quarry Kick-off Summer Party begins at 1 pm and continues until 4 pm. Canada’s largest outdoor freshwater swimming pool is a former limestone quarry. The quarry filled with water between 1930 and 1935 and was purchased by the town in 1945.
St Marys has just one sign on Highway 7. There are five consecutive right-hand turns along Highway 7 that lead to St Marys. Instead of placing the sign at those turns, the sign has been placed where turning right leads you to Exeter and turning left to the Gore of Downie.
The erection of signs along provincial highways in Ontario is contracted out to Canadian Tourism Oriented Directional Signs (TODS), a subsidiary of Louisiana-based Lamar outdoor advertising corporation. The estimated the cost of updating the sign and TODS contract would be an initial $5,000, plus about $1,200 in annual maintenance.
